Emporia Fire believes a house fire Sunday evening started in the laundry room.
Firefighters were dispatched to 106 Union around 5 pm, finding smoke coming from the eaves as they arrived. Fire Capt. Ben Lienemann tells KVOE News an electrical malfunction apparently developed in a water heater in the laundry room. The fire spread to some nearby clothes and parts of the laundry room but was limited to that room. Smoke damage was evident through most of the rest of the house.
No injuries were reported.

An investigation is underway after fire developed in an Emporia home Sunday evening.
Fire was reported at 106 Union around 5 pm and was put out about 30 minutes later. Fire was noted coming from all four sides of the house when crews arrived.
Early indications are the fire was in the laundry room, although it’s unclear if the fire extended to any other part of the house. There are no reports of injuries.
