Ken Duft won’t have his first meeting until next week, but he is now officially a member of the Lyon County Commission.
Duft was sworn in by Lyon County Chief Judge Jeff Larson as part of a short ceremony in the County Courthouse on Monday. A Republican, Duft joins Rollie Martin and Doug Peck on the Commission after defeating Democrat Gregg Stair in the general election back in November.
Duft says his underlying goal has always been to represent the people of the First District. He says his phone has been quiet recently — so far.
Duft calls it an honor to represent the First District.
Duft also plans several conversations with former commissioner Scott Briggs, who represented the First District for 16 years before deciding against a fifth term in office. The First District includes part of northeastern Emporia as well as nearby towns like Neosho Rapids and Reading.
Duft’s first official meeting is at 9 am next Thursday, Jan. 19 in the County Courthouse Commission Chambers. Duft will be undergoing training for his role on the commission this week and will not be in attendance for the commission’s regular action session this Thursday.
