The New Mexico woman who led authorities on a chase from Emporia to Ottawa last year will spend 10 years in prison as a result.
Rebecca Estrada was sentenced this week after pleading no contest to one count of aggravated battery on law enforcement. Six other charges, including aggravated battery on law enforcement, aggravated burglary and aggravated assault, were dismissed.
Estrada was accused of leading the chase through Lyon, Coffey and Osage counties before stopping in Ottawa. She was also accused of hitting a Franklin County deputy with her vehicle, forcing the deputy to go to the hospital briefly, and hitting two Lyon County cruisers before getting into an unlocked semi and triggering a nearly four-hour standoff before she was arrested. Early concerns of human trafficking were never pursued in state court.
Estrada is also charged with flee and elude, interference with law enforcement and other counts in Lyon County. Hearings in Emporia have not been slated on the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal.
