The Emporia State men’s basketball team rolled to a 79-63 win over Pittsburg State last night. The Hornets used a 19-1 run in the first half to build a 23-point lead and never trailed.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty called it a very good first half.
Owen Long scored a game-high 24 points to lead Emporia State in scoring. He passed the 1000-point mark for his career. He called the win a team effort.
Kaden Evans finished with 11 points. With the win, the Hornets improved to 13-3 for the season and 7-3 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State women played without their top 2 scorers in an 82-61 loss to Pittsburg State.
Tre’Zure Jobe missed the game after testing positive for covid and Victoria Price missed the game with an ankle injury.
The game was tied at 17 after the first quarter. Pittsburg State would outscore the Lady Hornets 23-7 in the 2nd quarter to take a lead they would not give up.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said they had a small margin for error.
Stevie Stinchcomb led Emporia State in scoring with 18 points and Faith Paramore finished with 10 points. The Lady Hornets fall to 9-7 for the season and 4-6 in the MIAA.
Both the women and the men will play at Missouri Southern Saturday afternoon.
