The Lyon County Fairgrounds will be the site of a rodeo celebration Saturday evening.
The Bowyer Community Building will be the site for a celebration involving Wrangler National Finals Rodeo world champion Jess Pope of Waverly, while the Anderson Building will see Jessica Klumpe of Olpe be crowned as Miss Rodeo Kansas 2023.
Brody Peak of Emporia Livestock Sales highlighted both events on KVOE’s Morning Show on Friday. He says it’s a cool way to celebrate rodeo.
Pope won his first Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association bareback riding world championship — and his third straight NFR average title — last year. He also won events at 12 different locations last year.
Klumpe, meanwhile, was involved in rodeo for years through Lyon County 4H, high school and college activities. She was crowned Miss Rodeo K-State in 2021.
Pope’s celebration is from 5:30-10 pm, while Klumpe’s celebration is from 5:30-10:30 pm.
