Pretrial and arraignment is the next step in the court process for a Fredonia man accused of trying to kill another man near Emporia this past fall.
Following a hearing recently in Lyon County District Court, Judge Doug Jones set 2 pm Feb. 16 as the next court date for Logan Dale Casteel. Judge Lee Fowler will preside.
Casteel is accused of attempted first-degree murder, with an alternate count of aggravated battery, after allegedly shooting Justin Smith at 625 Road 160 on Oct. 17. Casteel may learn his potential trial dates at the hearing next month.
Casteel also has a pretrial hearing Feb. 16 in a separate drug and paraphernalia possession case.
