As his nearly 40-year career begins to wind down, USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright reflected on his time in education during a special reception in his honor Wednesday morning.
The Bishop Center in Topeka welcomed special guests and superintendents from across the state as Argabright was formally recognized as the 2023 Kansas Superintendent of the Year. Argabright offered a range of advice to those in attendance.
He says an important part of education is showing students “you care.”
Argabright is set to retire at the end of the academic year after leading USD 252 Southern Lyon County for the past 16 years. Outside of the district, Argabright has been involved in numerous community projects including the Newman Regional Health Board of Trustees, United Way of the Flint Hills, Ignite Emporia, SOS, Emporia Friends of the Zoo and others.
The search for Argabright’s replacement is currently ongoing. The Kansas Association of School Boards is overseeing the search.
