The Emporia High girls basketball team cruised to a 56-27 victory over Maize to open up the Glacier’s Edge Tournament Thursday.
The Lady Spartans never trailed in the contest leading 14-8 after the first quarter and 39-15 at halftime.
Emporia High led by as many as 30 in the contest.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey says it was a good bounce-back win after the Lady Spartans suffered their first loss of the season last week at Manhattan.
Addie Kirmer led Emporia High setting a new career-high with 29 points.
The Emporia High girls are now 11-1 on the season. They’ll take on Wichita Heights in the second championship semifinal. Wichita Heights was a 61-31 winner over Blue Valley Southwest at 7:45 p.m. Friday. You can listen to the game on 14 KVOE AM/96.9 FM with coverage beginning around 7:30 p.m.
The other semifinal has Topeka-Seaman taking on Derby at 6:15 p.m. Seaman defeated Shawnee Mission West, 60-52, while Derby defeated Shawnee Mission East, 61-43.
Friday’s play begins at 3:15 p.m. with Shawnee Mission East taking on Shawnee Mission West. At 4:45 p.m., Maize will take on Blue Valley Southwest.
