The Emporia High girls basketball team needed a game-winning bucket by Lexsey Dewitt with four seconds left to defeat Wichita Heights, 53-52, in a championship semifinal of the Glacier’s Edge Tournament Friday night.
Emporia High trailed by as many as eight early and trailed 21-16 after the first quarter and erased the deficit to tie the game at 32 at half.
The Lady Spartans led by as many as six in the second half and led by three heading to the fourth quarter.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey called it a team win.
Addie Kirmer led Emporia High with 17 points. Emeil Bennett and Rebecca Snyder each had 11.
The Emporia High girls are now 12-1 on the season.
They’ll play Topeka-Seaman for the Glacier’s Edge Tournament Championship at 2 p.m. Saturday. Seaman defeated Derby, 45-39. Derby will play Wichita Heights at 12:30 p.m. for third.
Maize will play Shawnee Mission East for seventh place and Shawnee Mission West will play Blue Valley Southwest for fifth place. Both games are to be played at 11 a.m.
Shawnee Mission West defeated Shawnee Mission East 37-36. Blue Valley Southwest defeated Maize 43-26.
