The Lebo Girls and Olpe Boys are Lyon County League Tournament Champions.
In the girl’s game, Lebo overcame an early deficit to defeat the Olpe Lady Eagles 50-40.
Olpe jumped out to an early lead in the first half and led by one 19-18 heading into the halftime locker room. The game would see a total of six ties and seven lead changes before Lebo outscored Olpe 18-11 in the third quarter to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Lebo junior Audrey Peek led all scorers with 19 points.
Lebo senior Brooklyn Jones added 13 points. Saturday marked the fourth consecutive championship appearance for Lebo and Head Coach Patrick Gardner says it felt great to get the win.
Olpe was led in scoring by senior Ava Clark with 9 points.
In the boy’s game, Olpe would come out on top of a back-and-forth affair to defeat Lebo 54-44 to capture their record 11th tournament title.
Both teams would have their turn with the lead with four lead changes and four ties throughout the first half. In the second, Olpe would overtake the lead for good narrowly outscoring Lebo 9-7.
Olpe would build the lead to as many as 11 and Lebo would come as close as five to tying the game but could not overcome the deficit. Olpe sophomore Dexton Hoelting led his team with 14 points and senior Truman Bailey added 11.
Bailey says it’s a good feeling to go out with another tournament title.
Head Coach Chris Schmidt says an LCL win is always one to remember.
Lebo junior Zach Oswald and senior Landon Grimmit both ended the night with 14 points. Junior Grayson Shoemaker added 10.
