After a tremendous inaugural run, SOS is bringing its Heroes for Hope Campaign back for a second straight year.
The campaign kicks off Feb. 14 with a kickoff celebration scheduled for Feb. 9. Unlike last year, which saw the participants consist of all women, SOS Director Connie Cahoone says this year they are focusing more on a team approach with no limit to how many members can comprise said teams.
As of Friday, Cahoone says they have eight teams signed up to participate and are hoping for 20 total. Cahoone says they are both reaching out to potential participants while also inviting willing residents to contact them.
The fundraiser comes as grant awards are down from the prior year with their largest annual grant set to decrease by 40 percent next year alone. Cahoone tells KVOE News funds generated from Heroes for Hope will help to offset the decrease in grant funding.
Last year’s fundraiser generated more than $50,000. The goal for this year’s campaign is $40,000 with the Hopkins Foundation pledging $10,000 in matching funds.
Cahoone says even more important than the money is the awareness and dialogue the campaign helps to generate within the local community.
