For the third time in the last 4 years, the Kansas City Chiefs will be playing in the Super Bowl.
A 45-yard field goal by Harrison Butker with 3 seconds to play lifted the Chiefs to a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game Sunday.
Coach Andy Reid called it a great team win.
Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes one to Travis Kelce and one to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. He said it was a team effort.
Mahomes also had a big 20-yard run that set up the winning field goal.
Mahomes and Kelce moved into 2nd place for most playoff TDs by a QB-pass catcher duo.
The Chiefs stars broke a tie with Joe Montana and Jerry Rice by connecting for their 13th playoff score, and they now trail only Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who hold the all-time record with 15 touchdowns.
Kelce’s touchdown grab, already his third of this year’s playoffs also moved him up the individual leaderboard for postseason receiving TDs. The reception tied Kelce with Gronkowski at 15. Kelce’s next receiving score would place him above Gronk as the most prolific touchdown-catching tight end in NFL postseason history, and only Jerry Rice with 22 has more.
Chris Jones anchored the defense finishing with 2 sacks.
Harrison Butker would kick 3 field goals, a 43-yard, 24-yard, and the game-winning 45-yard field goal. He was also 2 for 2 on PATs.
The Chiefs will play the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.
The Eagles rolled to a 31-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game.
The Super Bowl will be played on February 12th in Phoenix, Arizona.
