Following the announced departure of superintendent Steve Jowers last week, the USD 386 Madison-Virgil Board of Education had a special meeting Saturday morning to discuss personnel.
The district had considered a partnership with either the Kansas Association of School Boards or Greenbush to lead the superintendent search, but board member Jeff Williams says the district is now planning to handle the search in-house unless applicants are not deemed acceptable by the board. If the search develops in that way, the board will renew its discussions about having an outside firm lead the effort. The district has received four applications since posting the job online last week.
Jowers announced his resignation after accepting the superintendent position at USD 448 Inman recently, with the board accepting the resignation as part of a special meeting early last week. Jowers says the move puts him closer to family in the Canton-Galva area. He officially had the job for less than a year after serving as superintendent-in-waiting for a year to get official certification from the state.
