Construction and education improvement matters will lead the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education meeting Wednesday. So is an idea to significantly shift the school schedule.
Early conversations are set to begin on a four-day week for classes while keeping a five-day work week. The district has already identified several items to consider as it works towards a decision, including recruitment and retention, childcare needs, calendar considerations, student achievement data, financial considerations and the district’s recent switch from a trimester format to the traditional semester.
For construction matters, McCownGordon will have the regular overall update on the Building for the Future bond initiative, while board members will also discuss guaranteed maximum prices for specific projects at Riverside and Timmerman.
Before those presentations, education improvement will be the focus through separate presentations involving Logan Avenue and proposed training through the Capturing Kids Hearts program that has routinely won awards at Village.
In other business, board members could consider a negotiated salary package for licensed professional staff. One executive session is also planned.
The meeting is at 6:30 pm Wednesday at Mary Herbert Education Center.
