Over $8,300 is coming to Lyon County’s Emergency Food and Shelter Board, according to the United Way of the Flint Hills.
A local board consisting of the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, a representative of the Lyon County Commission, Salvation Army and United Way will now determine how the funds will be allocated.
Lyon County has partnered with ECKAN, the Emporia Rescue Mission and Salvation Army to distribute these federal funds in years past. The most recent round of funding provided almost 3,900 meals and helped 15 people with rent and mortgage needs.
Public and private entities interested in these funds must call Community Impact Manager Hannah Crowl at 620-342-7564 or email hannah@uwfh.org. Agencies chosen for funding must be private nonprofit or government units, be eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have a demonstrated capacity to deliver emergency programs and — if a private nonprofit — have a voluntary board. The application deadline is March 3.
