The Emporia High basketball teams return home for a Centennial League doubleheader against Topeka High Friday.
Both the Lady Spartans and Spartans look for the season sweep over the Trojans.
For the Emporia High boys, they look to win the Dean Smith Trophy. Emporia High is 11-5 and 4-2 in league play. Topeka High is 3-13 and 0-6 in league play.
It’ll also be the Spartans’ first home game since Jan. 13. Coach Lee Baldwin says it’s an important game to win, especially when the Dean Smith Trophy is on the line.
Junior Sheldon Stewart says the Spartans need to limit Topeka High to one shot.
The Emporia High girls will be facing a Topeka High team with an identical record. Both teams are 13-3 and 4-2 in Centennial League play. The Lady Spartans are ranked sixth in Class 5A, while Topeka High is ranked fourth in Class 6A.
Coach Carolyn Dorsey says the Lady Spartans need to play tough.
Junior Lexsey Dewitt says they need to stick to what they do best.
