The celebration of the 155th birthday of William Allen White will have a special program this Sunday afternoon.
The William Allen White Community Partnership Inc. and Emporia State University Special Collection and Archives will host a program focused on the history of the William Allen White Bust and Memorial located at Peter Pan Park and its sculptor, Jo Davidson.
Presenter of the Memorial for the Sage and the Sculptor Program Robert Heineken says the value of this memorial is important because it shows the leadership of the community of Emporia to commemorate White’s legacy.
The presentation will cover how the idea of creating a memorial for White happened, the people involved, important historical details that happen during the time the memorial was created, and the relevance that had during that time and nowadays.
The program is free and open to the public and will start at 2 p.m. Sunday on the ESU William Allen White Library Learning Commons floor.
