The Emporia Animal Shelter has a big fundraiser coming later this month.
Jordan’s Way, which has raised over $4 million for shelters across the country, is coming to the Emporia shelter Feb. 20. Humane Society of the Flint Hills Director Stephanie Achille says the shelter was nominated for a tour stop, and it’s now kicking off the Kansas leg of the latest nationwide tour.
On-site activities from 10 am to 1 pm Feb. 20 will be closed to the public, but there will be a lot of video feeds from the event — all designed to increase social interaction and fundraising. The Emporia Animal Shelter is making daily social media posts the next 10 days. Achille is expecting “the most people at the shelter in quite some time” as part of the tour stop.
This comes as the shelter is still working with Lyon County on an animal quarantine contract extension or renewal. It also comes as adoptions are increasing — but pet surrenders continue to be processed and the shelter remains full at this time.
