Chase County Fire handled a pair of small fires Saturday.
Fire Chief Steve Fillmore says the first fire developed in a ditch along Highway 150 west of Elmdale. Despite light breezes, the fire burned around seven acres before it was put out. The cause is undetermined.
Later, firefighters went to 1338 Rock Creek Road about five miles west-southwest of Bazaar for a smaller fire. Fillmore says residents were target shooting at steel items when sparks got into some grass and started a fire. Less than an acre burned.
There were no injuries and no structures damaged with either fire.
Sunday’s fire danger will likely be high to very high areawide with highs approaching 60 degrees and wind gusts as high as 20 mph.
