Trial dates are set in a Lyon County aggravated assault case from late last year.
As part of a pretrial and arraignment Friday, Armando Ortiz Jr was set for trial to possibly start as soon as April 3. Other trial settings include potential start dates of May 8 and May 15. A final pretrial will be held March 29, with a motion hearing March 21.
Ortiz is accused of assaulting a woman with a torch lighter in late November. Besides aggravated assault, he’s also accused of interference with law enforcement and possession of both methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Meanwhile, a woman accused of burglary, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery dating back to a 2019 case has been sentenced to probation with underlying prison time.
Daphne Dawn Hays was initially accused in Lyon County District Court of aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, kidnapping and criminal use of a financial card. She ultimately pleaded no contest to burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery and criminal use of a financial card back in December.
Judge Lee Fowler sentenced Hays to four years total probation for the burglary and conspiracy counts. The sentence for criminally using a financial card is two years but will run concurrently to the burglary case. The prison term is set at 30 months for probation violations.
