Formal charges are pending after a Greenwood County deputy’s patrol vehicle was apparently struck on purpose last week.
The Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to stop a vehicle at an unspecified location on US Highway 400, but the driver, later identified as Eric Pettit, allegedly drove away at a high rate of speed. Pettit allegedly drove through several fences and hit the cruiser before he was subdued.
Pettit was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement, four counts of criminal damage to property and one count of felony flee and elude.
Meanwhile, two drug distribution cases are in the early stages in Greenwood County District Court after separate vehicle stops.

Dylan Holloway and Amanda Lawson. Charges against Holloway are pending, but Lawson has been charged with possessing over 70 tablets of fentanyl with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.
Lawson has a status conference in Eureka on March 3. Additional details about the traffic stop have not been divulged.
Another drug distribution case in Greenwood County is just beginning the court process.
Jeremy Austin is charged with distributing up to 100 grams of methamphetamine and possession paraphernalia after a vehicle stop. Further details are pending.
Austin’s first court appearance is Feb. 21 in Eureka.
