A wreck on the Kansas Turnpike southwest of Emporia led to the death of an Emporia man Monday night.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 60-year-old William Bond was driving a car southbound when he crashed four miles southwest of the Emporia gate shortly after 9:30 pm. Bond apparently had an unspecified medical incident. His car left the highway, went through a ditch and hit a tree head-on.
Bond was taken to Newman Regional Health, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
