It appears the KVOE listening area will have at least some impact from a major winter storm set to hit the Central Plains. It does not appear the area will get the full effect.
Winter weather advisories are now up for Lyon, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 9 pm Wednesday to noon Thursday, while Chase County is in a separate advisory from 3 pm Wednesday to 9 am Thursday. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers expects light snow totals along and south of the Kansas Turnpike and Interstate 35, with up to four inches of snow possible north of a Council Grove-to-Bushong-to-Harveyville line.
Despite the light snow totals, the wintry mix and snow will combine with northerly winds at or above 30 mph to cause low visibility through much of Thursday morning. Along and north of Interstate 70, snow totals of 4-10 inches could be commonplace.
Temperatures will improve after a high around 30 degrees Thursday, with highs in the mid-40s Friday and temperatures climbing to around 60 degrees by Sunday. Occasionally to consistently breezy conditions will be felt areawide. The next chance of rain isn’t until the middle of next week.
