One of Emporia’s biggest wintertime community events is almost here.
Polar Plunge 2023 is taking place at Mouse Lake once again — and raising money again for Special Olympics. Organizer Shelly Lutes says “it’s the best day of the year” for Special Olympics locally.
Fellow organizer Meredith Wagner says people need to realize the proceeds help Special Olympians have a great experience.
Over 80 people are registered. A biscuits and gravy breakfast begins at 8 am and registration begins at 9 am, both at Stingers, with all other activities — the costume contest at 11:15, the official plunge at 11:30, the Pluck-a-Duck drawing at noon and the awards ceremony at 12:15 pm — taking place at Mouse Lake. The Polar Strut has shifted from an on-site event to an “on-your-own” event.
More information is available at plungeks.org. KVOE will broadcast from Polar Plunge starting around 9:30 am.
