Special Olympians will benefit from the latest round of Polar Plunges across Kansas, including Emporia’s 18th annual plunge Saturday at Mouse Lake.
Close to 100 plungers were involved, raising over $18,000 — above the participation and fundraising totals from last year. State Special Olympics representative Luke Schulte says proceeds help athletes have a “VIP experience” at the upcoming State Games in Wichita.
Emporia Police Officer Dominick Vortherms says the plunge is a great community event for a lot of reasons.
Team Mouse swept all the top honors, including top individual and team costumes — and top individual and team fundraising totals.
