Trial is coming soon for one of the six defendants in the Jesus Avila murder from 2017, and a status hearing Wednesday could well finalize the start date.
Alan Alanis has a status hearing at 4 pm Wednesday. Currently, trial is set to begin Monday in Lyon County District Court.
Alanis is charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson, aggravated robbery and other charges in Avila’s death.
One defendant, Armando Nunez, is spending nearly four years in prison after pleading to attempted burglary, interference with law enforcement and criminal damage. Four other defendants, all charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, aggravated robbery, arson and other counts, are at varying stages of the court process. Andrew Granado and Jovan Pecina have status conferences May 11, while Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde has a status hearing June 1. Samuel Garcia, the alleged gunman, has arraignment coming May 4.
