The Emporia High girls wrestling team is sending seven wrestlers to the Class 6-5A state tournament that begins Wednesday at Hartman Arena in Park City.
Three Lady Spartans are returning state qualifiers.
Virginia Munoz is one of them wrestling at 135 pounds. She finished second last year at state.
Kiana Flores-Delgado is also making a second consecutive trip to state. She’s wrestling at 170 pounds.
Katina Keosybounheuang qualified for state last year. She’s looking to go a little bit further this year wrestling at 120 pounds.
Four other Lady Spartans are first-time state qualifiers.
Kensley Medrano is a second-generation member of her family to qualify for state. Her dad, Brook Medrano, was a multiple-time state qualifier and placer. She’ll be wrestling at 125 pounds.
Breanna Wolf is making her first trip to state in her sophomore year. She’s wrestling at 190 pounds.
Ariana Estrada is also making her state debut as a sophomore. She’s wrestling at 105 pounds.
Alexa Castillo is making her first trip to state as a freshman. She’ll be wrestling at 235 pounds.
Coach Shawn Russell says getting seven to state is great.
Matches get underway at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hartman Arena. Thursday’s matches begin at 9 a.m. We’ll broadcast all Emporia High matches on KVOE 1400-AM/96.9 FM as well as online at KVOE.com.
