Pittsburg State defeated both the Emporia State women’s and men’s basketball teams Thursday night.
In the women’s game, Pittsburg State jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never trailed on the way to a 70-60 win.
The Lady Hornets tried to rally in the 4th quarter cutting a 20-point deficit down to 8.
Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said it was a case of Pittsburg State being better.
Tre’Zure Jobe led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 20 points. Victoria Price finished with 11 points.
The Emporia State women are now 13-14 for the season and 8-13 in the MIAA.
Pittsburg State won the men’s game 68-67. The game featured 8 lead changes and 2 ties.
After trailing for over 34 minutes of the game the Hornets took a 67-66 lead with 1:53 to play. Pittsburg State would score the go-ahead and winning basket with 3 seconds to play.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said that’s what happens sometimes in basketball.
Alijah Comithier led Emporia State in scoring with 22 points. Owen Long added 21 points.
The Emporia State men are now 20-7 for the season and 14-7 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State basketball teams close out the regular season Saturday at home against Washburn.
