After a trio of interviews Tuesday and a quartet of executive sessions Thursday, USD 252 Southern Lyon County appears closer to naming a new superintendent. The board just isn’t fully ready to take that step yet.
Board members had back-to-back 15-minute executive sessions as part of a special meeting in Hartford on Thursday, followed by a 10-minute and 5-minute executive session before adjourning without a decision. Another special meeting is coming at 5 pm Friday in Hartford.
The board is looking for the next district leader with Mike Argabright retiring in June after 16 years leading the district. Emporia High Principal Dathan Fischer, Colby High Principal Ryan Muhlig and Eureka High Principal Sean Spoonts interviewed with board members Tuesday.
2 pm Thursday: USD 252 announces special meeting Thursday on superintendent search
The USD 252 Southern Lyon County Board of Education has announced a special meeting on its superintendent search Thursday.
Board members will meet at 5 pm in Hartford. The search is the only item on the agenda.
This comes as board members interviewed three finalists to replace longtime leader Mike Argabright. All the finalists, Dathan Fischer of Emporia High, Ryan Muhlig of Colby and Sean Spoonts of Eureka, are currently building principals.
Argabright is retiring after an education career spanning nearly 40 years, including 16 years leading Southern Lyon County.
