USD 253 Emporia Community Relations says an Emporia High student died Thursday.
Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren says 10th-grader Allison Hess passed away. Circumstances are not being divulged.
The district is expressing its sympathies to Hess’ family, and it is offering chances for staff and students to meet with counselors from 8 am to 3 pm Friday and all next week at Emporia High, along with 8 am to 3 pm next week at Emporia Middle School. In addition, Community Relations says people who need immediate mental health care should call CrossWinds Counseling and Wellness at 620-343-2211 during normal business hours or 620-343-2626 after hours. The district is also reminding people of 988, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Friday’s basketball games have been canceled, but plans are in the works to reschedule the Senior Recognition activities originally planned for Friday.
