Emporia High School had three wrestlers make the podium at the 5A state tournament in Park City Saturday.
Senior Xerarch Tungjaroenkul defeated Clayton Bowers of Maize 3-1 to win the 150 lbs state title, his second straight. With the win, Tungjaroenkul becomes the first two-time state champion for Emporia High since Brandon Charbonneau in 2010 and 2012 and the first back-to-back state champion since Dusty Spaulding in 2000.
Senior Lukas Hainline finished in fourth place at 138 lbs.
Fellow senior Davian White finished in sixth place at 165 lbs.
Head Coach Brooke Medrano says he is proud of how his team performed, especially their senior members.
Emporia High had six Spartans compete at the state tournament including senior Jesse Ultreras at 175 lbs, sophomore Christian Trujillo at 157 lbs and junior Josiah Bradley at 285 lbs.
