The front steps of Emporia High were packed on Saturday in memory of sophomore Allison Hess.
Emotions were raw as family, friends and community members gathered. Hess’ mother, Kari, thanked everybody for showing up.
Hess, a student at Emporia High, passed away Thursday.
At least 300 people went to the high school to pay their respects.
The Emporia High volleyball team has issued a statement saying, “Alli was an exceptional athlete, teammate and an overall great person who will be incredibly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hess family and friends during this difficult time.” Hess played volleyball for the Lady Spartans.
Three are now “Forever Spartan” T-shirts with Hess’ volleyball No. 9 available for sale as a fundraiser for the Hess family. Residents can go to the EHS Basketball Boosters Facebook page to order the shirts at $15 each. Residents are asked to order by the close of business Monday so shirts can be available for substate basketball games Tuesday and Wednesday. More shirts can be ordered later. Click here for the link.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Grief counselors will be available at Emporia High and Emporia Middle School from 8 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday this week.
