Hartford residents were set to choose three City Council members as part of the 2023 election cycle. Another position has come open.
The city is asking residents in the Hartford city limits to apply for the position opening up as current City Council member Ashley Meyer has resigned from the board. Meyer tells KVOE News she is continuing her pursuit of a nursing degree and also has had a recent change in her work duties as a home health nurse, so she has reluctantly decided to step aside from her role on the City Council after being elected last year. Meyer says she would like to run again for City Council if her schedule allows at a later time, and she says she felt all board members worked well together.
Meyer’s replacement will be appointed by the Hartford City Council. Interested residents can call the City Clerk’s Office at 620-392-5513.
Positions currently held by Jennifer Hamman (Position 1), Lori Fields (Position 3) and Yvonne Gardner (Position 5) are up for election, along with the position held by Mayor Kenny Hamman. The 2023 election cycle involves City Commission, City Council, Mayor and school board positions. The filing and withdrawal deadline is noon June 1.
