There has finally been some notable drought improvement for the bulk of the KVOE listening area following moderate rainfall totals earlier this week.
The north half of the KVOE listening area is now clear of all drought designations as part of Thursday’s weekly update from the US Drought Monitor. Most of the area’s remaining territory is listed as abnormally dry, but moderate drought is still evident across the southern half of Coffey County and part of northern Greenwood County. Severe drought covers a thin strip in southern Coffey and north-central Greenwood County. Extreme and exceptional drought still cover most of Greenwood County.
This follows anywhere from half an inch to nearly two inches of rainfall Sunday night into early Monday. It also follows some improving drought conditions for the north half of the KVOE listening area as reflected in the Feb. 17 update. Before the last three weeks, drought conditions had been virtually stable since mid-November.
