Though the program has been active for quite some time, outreach regarding the “Whole Health” approach to veteran care has been ramping up in recent months through the Department of Veterans Affairs.
According to Dr. Codi Shale of the VA, Whole Health focuses specifically on what matters to veterans rather than “what is the matter.” Shale says their main goal is to partner with veterans as early as possible to help them “take charge of their health.”
Jason Murphy of the Department of Veterans Affairs says Whole Health has been available within Eastern Kansas for right around three years. That being said, he tells KVOE News that over the past year, the VA has “ramped up” its outreach efforts.
He says it is likely that many veterans are entirely unaware of Whole Health’s existence. He explains that when most veterans come to the VA seeking assistance they are often only looking for traditional “clinical routes.”
Murphy encourages area veterans to get enrolled in an introduction to Whole Health class which educates them on the ins and outs of the program. For those interested in the class they can register by calling Murphy at 785-350-4512.
