The brackets are set for state basketball tournaments across the state of Kansas.
Five area teams clinched state berths this weekend.
The Emporia High girls will be playing at White Auditorium in the Class 5A state tournament. The Lady Spartans are the No. 6-seed and will face No 3-seed Andover at 8 pm Wednesday. If Emporia High wins that game, they’ll face either Bishop Carroll or Andover Central at 6 pm Friday. Other first-round games on Wednesday at White Auditorium include top-seed Topeka-Seaman facing St. James Academy at 2 pm. St. Thomas Aquinas faces Highland Park in the 4-5 matchup at 4 p.m.
Emporia High takes an 18-3 record into the state tournament.
In Class 1A-Division I, the Olpe boys and girls will be going to Dodge City. The Olpe girls are the No. 7-seed and will face No. 2-seed Quinter at 6 pm Wednesday. If Olpe wins that game, they’ll face either Frankfort or South Gray at 6 pm Friday.
The Olpe boys are the top seed and will face Centralia at 2 pm Thursday. If Olpe wins that game, they’ll face either Wichita Classical or Elyria Christian at 4 pm Friday. Games will be played at United Wireless Arena.
The Olpe girls take a 15-7 record to state, while the Olpe boys take a 20-2 record to state.
In Class 1A-Division II to be held at Barton Community College in Great Bend, the Lebo boys and girls are making return trips to state. The Lebo girls are the top seed at 23-0 and will take on Pawnee Heights at 6 pm Wednesday. If they win that matchup, they’ll face either South Haven or Bucklin at 6 pm Friday. The Lebo boys are the No. 6-seed with a 16-7 record and will face Stafford at 8 pm Thursday. If they win that matchup, they’ll face either Axtell or Bucklin at 8 p.m. Friday.
Boys games in Class 5A will be played Thursday at White Auditorium. Highland Park is the top seed and faces Basehor-Linwood at 2 pm Andover will face Maize South in the 4-5 matchup at 4 pm At 6 pm, Kapaun Mt. Carmel takes on Blue Valley Southwest. The final game has Hutchinson taking on Pittsburg at 8 pm.
Semifinals are to be played Friday with third place and championship games to be played on Saturday.
