The Olpe boys and girls basketball teams are heading to the Class 1A-Division I State Tournament in Dodge City.
Both the Lady Eagles and Eagles won their sub-state championship games Saturday night in Oswego.
The Lady Eagles rallied from a 14-point deficit early in the third quarter for a 50-46 victory over Madison.
Madison led 14-9 after the first quarter and 27-18 at halftime. The Bulldogs scored the first five points but then were outscored 23-9 in the third quarter which turned into a 41-all game heading to the fourth.
Olpe sealed the game with free throws in the final minute to extend its lead to four points.
Olpe girls coach Ron Slaymaker says adjustments at halftime were key.
Makenna Broyles led Olpe with 15 points, all coming in the second half. Jalynn Weakley led Madison with 22 points.
The Olpe girls are now 15-7, while Madison’s season ends at 18-4.
The Olpe boys began their game against Colony-Crest on a 9-0 run and never looked back in a 57-39 victory.
Olpe led by as many as 32 points in the game and held Crest to seven first-half points.
Olpe coach Chris Schmidt says a fast start was pivotal.
Truman Bailey led Olpe with 19 points.
The Olpe boys will take a 20-2 record into state.
