Sunday’s very high grass fire danger materialized to a degree with a grass fire in northern Lyon County, but the situation turned out much better than it could have.
The fire at 765 Road 300, about five miles north of Americus and 12 miles north of Emporia, was reported shortly before 2:15 pm. Lyon County Deputy Jody Meyers says a trash burn went out of control when an ember got into some nearby grass.
The resulting fire burned about two acres and did not affect any structures. No injuries were reported.
Americus, Allen-Admire and Emporia’s rural fire district responded.
