Speed played a role in a crash that resulted in a pickup truck in a creek south of Emporia on Sunday.
The crash happened in the 1100 block of Road 135 and was reported just before 4:30 pm. Lyon County Deputy Brandon Early says the truck, driven by 21-year-old Dawson Soyez of Emporia, was westbound and lost control due to speed. The truck rolled and landed in a creek.
After deputies arrived on scene and began investigating, Emporia/Lyon County Fire and EMS were dispatched to treat the passenger, 23-year-old Theron Row of Allen. Both Soyez and Row declined medical treatment at the scene but eventually went by private vehicle to Newman Regional Health for apparently non-life-threatening injuries.
Soyez and Row were both cited for failing to wear seatbelts.
