Music served as the basis of a major fundraiser in Emporia on Tuesday night.
For the 20th year, Emporia State’s music department collaborated with Habitat for Humanity for a special benefit concert at First United Methodist Church. Event spokesperson Sally Conard says the concert highlights the local talent and the broad mission.
Giving brief remarks during the concert was Lexlee Alderman, who is moving into a Habitat home at 427 State. Alderman and her two children were excited to get the news they had been approved.
The ESU Chorale, Chamber Singers and Chamber Orchestra performed during the concert. Fundraising totals will be announced later.
Habitat has been building homes in Emporia since 1991. It will either start or complete its 26th and 27th local homes this year.
