Kansas coach Bill Self will miss the Jayhawks’ quarterfinal matchup against West Virginia on Thursday after being hospitalized, the school has announced.
“Kansas Men’s Basketball Coach Bill Self will miss today’s Big 12 Tournament game as he recovers from an illness,” KU said in a statement. “Assistant Coach Norm Roberts will serve as the acting head coach. Self is doing well and receiving great care at the University of Kansas Health System.”
The Big 12 men’s basketball tournament continues Thursday at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.
The Tournament began Wednesday with West Virginia defeating Texas Tech 78-62. Oklahoma State outscored Oklahoma 57-49.
Thursdays games begin with Baylor playing Iowa State at 11 am.
Kansas will play West Virginia in the day’s second game.
KU Senior Kevin McCullar says the Jayhawks are looking forward to the challenge of adding a tournament championship to go along with a regular season Big 12 Championship.
Tipoff is set for 2 pm. The game will be broadcast on KVOE 1400AM/96.9FM.
In the day’s third game, Texas plays Oklahoma with tipoff set for 6 pm.
In the final game of day 2, Kansas State faces TCU.
Kansas State Coach Jerome Tang says this will be a Big Challenge.
Tipoff is set for 8:30 pm. That game will be broadcast on Country 101.7FM.
The Big 12 women’s tournament begins Thursday today in Kansas City at Municipal Auditorium.
