A pair of bridges on Kansas Highway 99 over the Kansas Turnpike northeast of Emporia will be closing early next month as part of a construction project.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority says bridges crossing the highway at mile marker 132.992, near the Emporia service exit, and mile marker 134.893 will close to traffic starting April 3. Detours will be marked starting Monday, with detours in place possibly through mid-November.
The is part of the Turnpike Authority’s ongoing work to increase bridge heights and help with freight movement up and down the highway. The Lyon County project will include new guardrails, protection of bridge piers, improved slopes and overall bridge rehab work.
Burns & McDonnell of Kansas City, Missouri, won the project with a maximum bid of $4.8 million.
