The Olpe Lady Eagles were defeated by Quinter 57-47 in the opening round of the 1A Division 1 state tournament in Dodge City Wednesday night.
Quinter jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before the Lady Eagles got on the board. Olpe would come within one of tying the game, however, Quinter would outscore Olpe 15-8.
Olpe would outscore Quinter 14-9 in the second quarter to trail 24-22 at the half. Quinter would pull away with a 12-0 run to start the second half and Olpe came as close as five to tying the game but could never overcome the deficit.
Olpe was led in scoring by junior Kadie Robert with 13 points. Head coach Ron Slaymaker credited his team saying they “fought tooth and nail” throughout the game, especially on the defensive end.
The Lady Eagles finish their season with a record of 16-8. The Olpe boys will open state play against Centralia at 2 pm in Dodge City.
