A bill designed to halt transgender women from participating in girls’ or women’s sports at the school or college level is now in front of Kansas Governor Laura Kelly.
The Kansas Senate voted 28-11 to pass House Bill 2238, commonly called the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act. 17th District Senator Jeff Longbine of Emporia voted for the bill, which has a veto-proof majority — although a veto is likely from the governor.
The measure passed the House in late February with an 82-40 margin. 13th District Representative Duane Droge and 76th District Representative Eric Smith voted for the bill, while 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber of Emporia voted against it.
