USD 251 Northern Lyon County will certainly be updating its security system in the near future. The only question that remains is the route the district will take to reach that goal.
During their recent board meeting Wednesday, USD 251 Board of Education members received a presentation on Emergent3, an app designed to connect users to emergency services during crisis situations. These discussions followed a similar presentation last month on SafeDefend which also provides increased communication with emergency personnel through the use of thumb scanners in district buildings.
USD 251 Superintendent Bob Blair says both products offer great benefits, however, he believes Emergent3 would likely provide easier access for district staff.
Blair tells KVOE News the district is not currently planning to look into any other options at this time, but that could change in the near future.
Blair says they hope to have a system implemented by the start of the 2023-24 school year.
In separate business Wednesday, board members reviewed district facility use policies by outside organizations. Blair says the discussions are simply a proactive review to see if there are any updates needed to the policy with the district constructing a new weight room at the junior high school.
He says many residents have already inquired as to whether the public will have access to the weight room once it is complete and he expects interest will continue to grow. Therefore; the district simply wants to be as prepared as possible for once that time comes.
