The newest member of the Flint Hills Technical College administrative team is hitting the ground running.
Corey Spikes was introduced to the community during KVOE’s Tech Talk program Tuesday. A southwest Kansas native and a recent Emporia resident, Spikes is the college’s new Executive Director for Economic Partnerships, and he says he’s impressed with the college’s mission
President Caron Daughterty says the new department has lofty aspirations.
Spikes comes on board shortly after a nearly $2 billion economic announcement involving EMP Shield, which will produce semiconductor components. Flint Hills Technical College was named as the project’s academic advisor for higher-ed programming.
The college is working towards a semiconductor manufacturing program as well as shorter training programs for different pieces of equipment and various needed procedures.
Spikes’ agricultural background was also appealing with the college moving towards possibly adding a new line of ag business classes.
