Sports In Kansas has released its finalists for coach and player of the year.
Eight area coaches are finalists for Coach of the Year. Six area girls players are finalists for Player of the Year.
Emporia High girls basketball coach Carolyn Dorsey and boys basketball coach Lee Baldwin are finalists in Class 5A.
Madison’s Bill Nienstedt and Olpe’s Ron Slaymaker are finalists for Girls Coach of the Year in Class 1A-Division I. Lebo’s Patrick Gardner is a finalist for Coach of the Year in Class 1A-Division II.
On the boys side, Lyndon’s Michael Massey is a finalist for Boys Coach of the Year in Class 2A. Olpe’s Chris Schmidt is a finalist in Class 1A-Division I. Lebo’s Dennis Becker is a finalist in Class 1A-Division II.
Emporia High senior Rebecca Snyder is a finalist for Player of the Year in Class 5A. Burlingame’s Kaylin Noonan is a finalist in Class 1A-Division I. Lebo’s Brooklyn Jones and Audrey Peek and Southern Coffey County’s Josie Weers are also finalists in Class 1A-Division II. Jones is also a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year for Classes 3A and below, along with Madison’s Yolaine Luthi.
Boys finalists for player of the year were announced Thursday. In Class 3A, Osage City’s Landon Boss is a finalist In Class 2A, Lyndon’s Jackson Biggs is a finalist. In Class 1A-Division I, Olpe’s Truman Bailey is a finalist. In Class 1A-Division II, Lebo’s Landon Grimmett and Hartford’s Ali Smith are finalists. Olpe’s Blake Redeker, Burlingame’s Matthew Heckman and Lebo’s Luke Davies are finalists for Small Classes (3A and below) Defensive Player of the Year.
The winners will be announced next weekend.
