As the Saint Patrick’s Committee gets ready for its annual slate of community events coming this weekend, it’s also pleased with the initial results of its first-ever online auction that wrapped up Tuesday night.
The auction generated around $7,300. Committee spokesperson Barb Lowery, a guest on KVOE’s Talk of Emporia this week, says that’s consistent with — and proportionate to — the in-person auction activities held for years at Bruffs Sports Bar and Grill.
The auction was moved online largely due to the combination of the committee’s annual planning window, which typically begins in December, and a change in ownership at Bruffs effective in January. Both Lowery and fellow committee member Mark Kovac say the committee will have further discussions about next year’s auction format. Item pickup will be from 5:30-8 pm Thursday at Sommers Auto Plaza.
This leads to Saturday’s parade, which begins at 1 pm at Fourth and Commercial, and activities at Town Royal for most of the day. Some silent auction items will be available for bid at Town Royal between 1:30-3:30 pm. All proceeds from the auction and corporate sponsorships benefit 12 community groups this year.
