Windy conditions will persist into Friday across the KVOE listening area, and part of the weather forecast includes a change from spring to winter.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers is tracking a potent cold front set to come across the area by midday or early afternoon. This will push our temperatures from around 60 degrees at midday to the upper 30s by sunset. There will also be some sleet by late afternoon or early evening and some light snowfall later in the evening, but Meyers isn’t expecting widespread travel issues because road temperatures will be a few degrees above our overnight lows.
Wind advisories remain effective for all area counties until 1 am Friday, based on projected wind gusts at 40-50 mph, and the wind’s effect led to isolated issues Wednesday. There was minor grass fire activity south of Emporia with a small fire quickly put out at K-99 and Road 130 near the Emporia Municipal Airport. Less than an acre burned with no injuries or property damage. The cause is under investigation. Chase County is now in a burn ban all day Thursday.
There were also scattered small-scale power outages in and around Emporia and Melvern, according to Evergy’s online outage map. There have already been small-scale outages near Waverly on Thursday morning.
