Three Osage County residents were taken to a Topeka hospital for treatment after a four-vehicle collision near the county seat Saturday afternoon.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 1:30 pm on US Highway 75 at 173rd Street, or about seven miles north of Lyndon. A car driven by 18-year-old Nicholas Prater of Vassar was northbound and stopped, waiting to turn left. A northbound pickup driven by 51-year-old Christine Thornton of Lyndon rear-ended Prater’s car, which spun into southbound traffic and was hit head-on by a southbound car driven by 57-year-old Cheryl Ball of Osage City. A southbound car driven by 26-year-old Aubrey Smith of Cherryvale then hit the Prater and Ball cars.
Thornton, Prater and Ball were all taken to Stormont-Vail after the crash. Thornton and Prater had suspected serious injuries, while Ball had suspected minor injuries. All involved were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
US-75 was fully blocked for nearly two hours after the wreck.
